Additional Preferences Frequently Asked Questions

What is Additional Preference?

YKS (Higher Education Institutions Examination) Additional Preferences is the process by which ÖSYM grants new preferences to candidates who were not placed in the first placement, for the quotas that were left vacant and not registered in the first placement of universities.

Following initial placements and registration, ÖSYM publishes the "YKS Supplemental Preference Guide" for additional preferences. The base scores for the departments and programs to be selected must be equal to or higher than the base score to be eligible for selection.

Some important points you should consider in the YKS Supplementary Preference Guide:

  1. Base PointsThe minimum scores for the departments included in the additional preferences are specified in the guide. These minimum scores represent the minimum initial placement score for that department. To apply for an additional preference, you must have a score equal to or higher than these scores. This means that if your score is lower than the minimum score for the department you wish to apply for, you will not be eligible to apply for that department.
  2. Vacant QuotasThe supplemental preference guide provides detailed information about available vacancies. These vacancies generally include departments that were not filled or registered for during the initial placement. You can apply for these vacancies.
  3. Order of PreferenceWhen making additional preferences, it's important to rank your preferences. Your first choice should be the department you desire most. Other options should be ranked based on the relevance of your score and your preferred departments.
  4. Application ProcessYou can make your preferences through ÖSYM's Candidate Transactions System (AIS). After entering your preferences, you must review and confirm them.
  5. Announcement of ResultsAfter the additional preferences are submitted, the results will be announced by ÖSYM. You can follow the results on the ÖSYM official website or through ÖSYM announcements.
  1. Candidates Who Were Not Placed After the First PlacementAfter the initial placement results are announced, candidates who were not placed can apply for the remaining vacant positions during the additional placement period. By submitting additional preferences, these candidates can increase their chances of being placed in the remaining vacant positions.
  2. Candidates Who Did Not Make a Preference After the First PlacementCandidates who have not made any preferences after the announcement of the first placement results can also benefit from the additional preference period.
  3. Candidates Placed in the First Placement and Not RegisteredCandidates who were placed in a university and department during the initial placement period but did not register are not eligible for the additional placement period. These candidates are deemed to have lost their placement rights based on their initial placement results and will not be considered in the additional placement process.

*These rules are designed to ensure that supplemental selections are conducted fairly and orderly. To be successful in the supplemental selection process, it is important to carefully follow these rules and the other information in this guide.
