Educational program: Atlas University Psychology Department curriculum includes the first year course “Introduction to Psychology”, which provides a comprehensive introduction to psychology, as well as basic courses such as “Philosophy”, “Sociology”, and “Statistics”. The second year includes basic compulsory departmental courses such as “Developmental Psychology”, “Social Psychology”, and “Physiology”; in the third and fourth years, in addition to compulsory departmental courses, there are elective courses related to different sub-fields of psychology and non-departmental elective courses. Our aim in determining our elective courses is to ensure that our students have as much command of the field as possible when they are closer to graduation and to help them determine which sub-fields of psychology they are more interested in and talented in.
Undergraduate Program Objectives and Outcomes:
The program objectives of the Psychology department are;
-Can use theoretical knowledge about psychology effectively in the public and private sectors,
-Having the ability to conduct scientific research with knowledge of research methods,
-Able to act with professional ethics awareness,
-Having gained awareness, sensitivity and sense of responsibility towards social processes,
-To train psychologists who can improve themselves, work in teams or independently, and have effective communication and presentation skills.
The program outcomes of the Psychology department are;
-Knows theories, different approaches and perspectives related to psychology and the relevant basic concepts and terms.
-Knows the process of psychology becoming a science from a historical perspective, its approach to emotional, behavioral and mental processes in this process, and the scientific methods used to investigate these processes.
-Knows the study subjects and methods of the sub-fields of psychology and defines the duties of psychologists working in these fields.
-It treats humans as a biological, psychological, sociological and cultural whole and has the ability to establish relationships with relevant disciplines in this sense.
-Knows the distinctive emphases of the basic theories, approaches and perspectives of psychology (behavioral, biological, cognitive, evolutionary, humanistic, psychodynamic and sociocultural).
-Knows the basic principles and methods of psychological assessment and acquires basic interview skills.
– Have basic knowledge of measurement tools frequently used in relevant subfields of psychology.
– Has the knowledge and skills required to conduct research in the field of psychology, such as finding a problem, creating a research design, collecting data, determining appropriate data analysis, interpreting and reporting findings.
-Dominates the scientific understanding of thought in psychology; uses critical thinking and reasoning skills.
-Knows the ethical principles, values and applications of psychology.
Program Evaluation:
In the Department of Psychology, the evaluation methods of course success are determined by the instructor of each course, at least two mid-term and one end-of-term evaluations, in accordance with the relevant Associate and Undergraduate Education Regulations. Midterm exams, final exams, quizzes, homework, and applications are among these evaluation methods.
Regular evaluation surveys are conducted by both the university and the department head in order to evaluate the courses and the program by the students, and continuous improvement efforts are made in line with the feedback.
Distance Education:
The education method of our department is face-to-face, but some of the university elective courses taken from the common course pool and some courses such as Turkish Language and Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions, which are compulsory in all departments, can be conducted online.
