As part of the Earthquake Week events held between March 1-7, our university's academics and students have undertaken a meaningful project aimed at transforming disaster awareness into a visual memory.
"Have your emergency kit ready before a disaster strikes."
In a project coordinated by Lecturer Kadir Şeker, Head of the First and Emergency Aid Program at Atlas University Vocational School, the dormitory walls were decorated with the slogan "Have your bag ready before a disaster strikes" and drawings of "Disaster Kits," which are vital in the first 72 hours. In the dormitory, which houses approximately 4,800 students, these drawings serve as a permanent educational material that students will see every day.
Academic Vision and Field Experience Combined
Lecturer Kadir Şeker, in his statements on the subject, summarized the aim of the project with the following words:
“Creating this awareness in Cevizlibağ, one of Türkiye’s most crowded dormitories, is very valuable for us. Together with our students, we painted disaster kits on the walls, symbolizing the basic materials needed in the first 72 hours after an earthquake. Our aim is to keep our young people’s disaster awareness fresh by combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience.”
A Model Example in Public-University Collaboration
Temel Kılınçlı, the Head of the Istanbul Protocol, Press and Public Relations Branch of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, who attended the event, emphasized the importance of universities' role in social awareness projects and stated that they always support such artistic and educational activities to raise awareness among students living in dormitories.
As Atlas University Vocational School, we will continue to produce socially responsible projects and educate our students to become individuals who will build the resilient society of tomorrow.
