Istanbul Atlas University Celebrates International Women's Day, March 8th
The importance of women's place in business was emphasized at the March 8th International Women's Day Panel titled "Leadership, Management and Women in Business," organized by Istanbul Atlas University. The panel, which addressed the role of women in the workplace, underlined the need to strengthen their position in the business world.
The panel, held in the Dr. Ralph Defronzo Auditorium at the Atlas Valley Campus, attracted interest from academics, university administrative staff, and students.
Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak: “Strong Women, Strong Society”
Istanbul Atlas University Rector Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak, in his opening speech titled "Strong Women, Strong Society," drew attention to the importance of the strong presence of women in academic and administrative positions. Stating that approximately 65% of the academic and administrative staff within the university are women, Kocabıçak expressed great pride in this fact.
Emphasizing that institutions are strengthened by women's knowledge, labor, and vision, Kocabıçak said, "We are extremely pleased with the strong representation of women at our university. We believe that institutions where women play an active and effective role are more productive and stronger."
“Violence and Inequality Against Women Remain the Most Important Problems”
Kocabıçak noted that issues such as violence against women, discrimination, and inequality remain significant problems worldwide today, and stated that International Women's Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness and develop solutions to these issues.
"Strong societies exist thanks to strong women."
Stating that the sustainable development and happiness of societies are possible only through the empowerment of women, Kocabıçak said, “In a society where women are happy and strong, the family, the children, and the future will also be strong. Strong societies are only possible with the presence of strong women.”
“Leadership, Management and Women in Business”: Strengthening the Position of Women in the Workplace
Academics from Atlas University addressed the role of women in the workplace and emphasized the need to strengthen their position in the business world.
The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Aytolan Yıldırım, addressed the obstacles women face, particularly in management positions, in her speech titled "Women in Management & Employment and Career Barriers."
Elif Şanlıöz, a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, emphasized the importance of women's leadership in the business world in her speech titled "Why Women's Leadership in Business is Not a Choice, but a Necessity."
Dr. Ülfet Uzunkoca, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and a specialist in Occupational and Organizational Psychology, discussed the obstacles women face in the workplace and offered solutions.
Cemre Arıcı, a dental student, also stated that every idea shared and every story told at the panel demonstrated the importance of women's place in society, in all aspects of life.
Merve İnci Özen from the Women's Services Unit of the Kağıthane Social Services Center Directorate provided information about the center's work and the activities of the Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center (ŞÖNİM).
