Oral and Dental Care Recommendations during Childhood

February 5 2024

In order to have healthy teeth in adulthood, oral and dental care must be carried out regularly, starting from the appearance of the first teeth in childhood. Milk teeth, which begin to appear in infancy and complete their development between the ages of 2 and 3, are later shed and replaced by the new permanent teeth.

for babies

To remove bacteria and sugars that can cause cavities, wipe the gums with a soft, clean cloth twice a day, in the morning after the first feeding and just before bed.

When the teeth emerge, begin brushing them twice a day with a soft, small-bristled toothbrush and plain water.

Visit the dentist on your baby's first birthday to spot signs of trouble early.

Talk to your dentist or doctor about applying fluoride varnish to your child's teeth as soon as the first tooth appears.

Consult your doctor or dentist first about using fluoride toothpaste in children under 2 years old.

For kids

Brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day.

Help your child brush his teeth until he has good brushing skills.

If your child is under 6 years old, watch him brush his teeth. Make sure they use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and spit it out rather than swallowing.

Ask your child's dentist to apply dental fillings when appropriate.
Drink tap water that contains fluoride.
